A World ravaged by evil and brutality, can you survive?

Take the role of a monster hunter, or a monster yourself, and battle to stay alive in dark a world full of evil and undead creatures, what mysteries await you?

This RP takes place in an 1800's pre industrial revolution type era, with experimental black powder technology. There are. However, technological advances in other areas, such as audio recording devices, radio transmissions, and electricity, usually available to the aristocracy. References to modern and fitting songs, whether passing or direct, are allowed in this manner. How fitting certain media are will be decided ultimately by myself as originator of the thread.

While you are able to customize your characters, for the monsters, there are certain guidelines, for example;

Vampire, an evil undead species inhabited by an evil (demon) soul; they need to drink blood of living endothermic (warm blooded) animals to survive. They contain unnatural strength and agility, and usually have a flare for the dramatic and the refined to disguise their savage nature. If the same being is fed upon three times within three days or nights, the victim, if human, will become a vampire who is subordinate to the one who caused it to be so. Although it is a powerful and seductive variety of monster, it does have its limitations. While they are able to walk about in daylight, their power is greatly diminished before noon, and is at full just after nightfall. As an extension of their evil, they are unable to leave their graves or respective resting places on Saturdays or Sundays. They are unable to cross running water, as their evil souls would be removed from their corpses. The very Earth has been known to protest their presence, causing strange weather patterns in the area in which they are entombed. They do not tolerate fire well, but are able to heal quickly and reattach severed limbs. They detest the smell of garlic, and are greatly tormented and repelled by trees related to hawthorn, and certain herbs and plants, such as the lemon fruit. They are unable to enter inhabited buildings to which they have not been invited, and are severely damaged by blesses objects and holy water. It is rumored that only silver weapons may affect their evil bodies. Vampires can difficult to locate due to their ability to shape shift into animals such as rats, fleas, cats, owls, wolves in some cases, and, if they are intimately aware of them, bats. (Not everyone is aware of "vampire" bats at the time in which the story takes place) As a side note, they also have two hearts, one of a dead human, one of an evil sort, which must be pierced simultaneously if that is the desired method of dispatch; these two hearts are located near to each other in the chest cavity, similar to regular human hearts. The blood of a vampire renders a human irrevocably insane upon contact. Due to being dead, vampires' skin is actually, at most times, a shade of dark red, blue, dark ashen gray, or pitch black, but they disguise themselves often, especially when among humans, giving them their classical pale appearance. Some have naturally pale bodies, the cause of which is undetermined at this point.

When a human becomes a vampire, by way of having been bitten by a vampire at some point and dying, they may commit "Deranging", their final act of love before they are consumed by the evil soul which has invaded their dead bodies, this is not required, but is almost always impossible for the vampire to undo, no matter how much it wants to. These acts can be physically simple, and/or emotionally profound, but have a time limit in which it must be undertaken.

Werewolf, a man who is in league with evil, he is granted the ability to transform into a murderous wolf like beast during the night. In his beast form, he looks as a large dark wolf with dull eyes, no tail, and the ability to speak. His bloodlust is insatiable, werewolves have been known to slaughter whole villages in one night and still be on the prowl before dawn. They hold little animosity towards vampires if any, but may devour lesser undeads upon a whim or when angered. When in his human form, he can be told by unexplained scars mirroring wounds on the werewolf which disappear the next day, as a result of the werewolf's accelerated healing ability. It is said that if one cuts the skin of a werewolf in his human form, fur will be revealed underneath his skin surrounding the inflicted wound.

They are repelled by living ash trees, and feel great pain when their hair is set alight. They are extremely durable, but wounds caused by silver take longer to heal and cause more damage. They can be killed by normal means, but it takes more effort to get the job done. It is told among Werewolf Slaying clans that calling a werewolf by their full given name will affect their temperament. This ranges from causing them to be momentarily obedient, to reverting them to human form for a time, or even removing their curse. Lycanthropy can only be transmitted by curses set upon the individual, or by being coerced into service of the devil. Those bitten by werewolves, however, will soon be devoured or slain. When a werewolf is slain, there is a possibility that it will be reanimated as a vampire, especially if it was once a witch. The proper term for a female variant of this creature is an "IdesWolf" (Ee-des-wolf)

Zombie (1) a dead course reanimated by a necromancer. The only way to become this kind of zombie is to die and have a necromancer reanimate, or curse you into a half living state of undeath, and control you. These cursed half life zombies usually need to absorb vitality from the living in one form or another in order to stay animated.

Zombie (2) a mentally incapacitated slave of a criminal (usually a farmer of opium or other illegal drugs), these false necromancers poison an individual into a coma. After the individual is buried, the criminal revives them and feeds them a steady supply of semi-psychoactive drugs to keep them obedient. These zombies are mistaken by many observers as the other type, but it should be noted that these zombies came before the reanimated corpses.

Necromancer, one who looks the dead to divine the future. They tend to misuse this ability to contort dead corpses to their will, being a great source of undead activity. This tendency may come from delving too deeply in their quest for power and knowledge and being driven mad by vengeful spirits. Upon dying, this otherwise normal human may become an undead known as a Litch, a being who is linked to both living and dead, and can summon ghosts, animate the undead, or bring weaker individuals to death.

Gorugo, a shaggy headed species of monster which enjoys eating human flesh. They hide in dark places waiting to capture any humans that pass by with their snaggly teeth, wide fingers, and sharp claws. Their bodies are covered in fur or hair, the color of which varies, but usually tends to be in darker shades. When living in a human home, they hide under beds or in closets, where they occasionally attempt to eat children. They don't like bright lights, since they hurt their sensitive eyes, and they dislike open areas, sticking to wooded areas, city streets, and under wetland surfaces. They are also irritated and driven away by repetitive, rhythmic noises and sounds. Their natural habitat is underneath bogs, in swamps, and grass short-houses in marshes called "Urara" (singular form is ura, or urar,). Their frightening appearance, diet of human flesh, and ability to live under the surface of bogs for most of their lives has given rise to the story of the "Boogeyman" (Original species, any abilities must be verified first before use. Their names are usually corruptions of names used by humans in the area)

Windigo, an undead monster which forms (mostly) when a living human commits cannibalism. The offending cannibal often wanders into the deep woods where, when he or she dies, an evil spirit inhabits the course, which grows to immense size, sprouts hair, and grows sharp claws and teeth. These creatures' sharp teeth stick out of their bloody mouths, due to their tendency to eat their own lips. Their hunger is ever-present, because as they eat flesh, usually that of a human, their bodies grow in proportion to the meal. This results in their looking simultaneously gorged and emaciated. These gigantic man eating creatures have glowing sunk in eyes which can see for miles. They are expert hunters, and are rarely seen unless they want to be seen. They stalk their play for long periods of time, with tell tale signs for the doomed victim. When they are close enough to the victim, they let out a loud roar or shriek, causing their prey to flee into the woods in a panic. This, however, was the aim of the creature, and the prey is soon eaten afterwards. The Windigo is a true enemy of man, but has an almost friendly relationship with certain top predators, such as wolves. These beings are difficult to find or kill, and few know how, though those who do are paid well for their services. It is possible for one to become a Windigo without committing cannibalism, but this requires the presence of another Windigo in the area.

Ghoul, an undead which robs graves and devours human flesh. They are either created by a necromancer, or when a vampire drains almost all of the blood from a human in one feeding. Ghouls are greatly strong, but never exceedingly bright. Those created by vampires are mindlessly obedient to that vampire, while those created by a necromancer have a tendency to rebel and become uncontrollable. They have a tendency to appear revolting shades of green, blue or grey, and possibly red, due to fungi, bacteria, or mosses growing on their often skinless bodies. Those created by vampires tend to be pale, due to the appropriately named "vampire fungus" that covers them.

My Characters

Name: Tobias Deteris Silverblood

Last Name: Silver

Lifestate: Alive

Type: Vampire Hunter

Weapons: A pair of knives with pistol like handles, the hilts made of hawthorn and blackthorn respectively. The blades of these knives have been silvered, maximizing impact upon unpure monsters. He also carries his father's shield with him at times, but rarely uses it, and always keeps a vampire slaying kit on hand. Has been known to wield other weapons as the situation requires.

Abilities: Agility above that of an average human, bursts of increased strength, ability to conjure and focus elements harmful to the undead (such as fire), and at times, the ability to command undead spirits to leave an area, (Volcut Shout) vampires are unable to return to an area they have been commanded away from by the Volcut Shout.

Description: Approximately 6 feet tall, young (somewhere around 17 from appearance) with dark hair, which either hangs forward, or is slicked back on occasion. He has dark hazel eyes and wears a grey-brown cloak. under which he wears a reddish, thick leather shirt, and pantaloons of the same color as his cloak. His skin is pale, and at times his irises appear black, usually while in the dark. Due to his father's being discovered dead before he was born, he was given the last name Silverblood to commemorate the event and properly mourn. He is usually quiet and reserved, and greatly respects his brother Alexander. He has somewhat of a flare for the dramatic, which shows itself during battle; he has been known to climb tall buildings in order to swoop in on his quarry, speak with his target to demoralize or anger it, or prolong a fight in order to accomplish a more theatric end to his adversary. Many say he and his brother look very much alike, but he doesn't see it.

Name: Alexander Charlemagne Silverblade

Last Name: Silver

Lifestate: Alive

Type: Slayer of the Undead/High Slayer of the Undead (Paladin)

Weapons: His father's longsword, multiple devices for dispatching those undead.

Abilities: His training grants him strength and precision, as well as a great knowledge of many types of monster.

Description: Tall, and in his mid twenties, Alexander Silverblade is a mighty warrior, wearing silver armor and wielding his father's sword, he is as of yet unmatched by man or beast. He is protective of his younger brother Tobias, but rarely shows him how much he truly cares. He notices his brother's skill, but the elders tell him to let Tobias notice it for himself. He has brown eyes and light brown hair, much like his father, and his skin is lightly tanned. He is extremely disciplined, and does not allow frivolous activity during a hunt or mission.

Name: Gregorium Malthus Hamerfold

Last Name: Hamerfold

Lifestate: Alive

Type: Elder Hunter

Weapons: Rarely carries weapons at this time.

Abilities: Though a well trained Vampire Slayer, Monster Hunter, and Undead Tracker, his age keeps him from combat. His wisdom allows him to make quick work of many situations. He has much knowledge of healing herbs and other remedies, and can even craft certain objects, and is able to imbue many things with power, either defensive, offensive, restorative, or locative.

Description: A balding man at 84 years, with white hair and a long beard. He wears an old tan-yellow robe, he is calm and focused, often seen sitting upon the ground. He is quick to discipline mistakes, but also duly rewards deeds well done. He has trained Alexander for his entire slaying career, and is proud of him in his own small way. He sees much promise in Tobias, but senses a foreboding danger which he can not himself identify.

Name: Heinrich Charlemagne Deteris Silverblade

Last Name: Silver

Lifestate: Deceased

Type: Monster Slayer (formerly)

Weapons: Formerly wielded a gleaming longsword and a trusted sturdy shield, he passed these items on to his sons.

Abilities: Formerly a warrior of a high calibur, possibly greater than that of his son Alexander

Description: Founder of the hunting clan in which both of his sons fight. He was proud of his son Alexander during his life, but has never met Tobias, as he died in combat with monsters before he was born. This fact weighs heavily on Tobias at times. His dark hair has been passed to both of his sons, and his and Alexander's hair is the same shade.

There is a vampire whom others call Maridu, or He Who Stole Himself Away, who used his Durongin to seal himself in a tomb. Many vampires who know of him seek his tomb in order to release and awaken him. It is thought among circles of vampires that one who has not fed upon blood for a long enough time will posses great power, but none have the reserve to do so themselves.

Other Characters:

Name: Mortimire

Lifestate: Monster

Type: Gorugo

Weapons: None

Abilities: Hiding in shadows, observing, and deal making.

Description: A grey-blue gorugo with black eyes who prefers not to eat humans. Instead, he steals meat from butcher shops and dining tables, earning himself the nick-name of "Butchershop Bill" in certain parts of England (counter part of real world England) "Samuel Sausage Snatcher" and, oddly enough, "Mortimire Meat-thief" in certain parts. He often attends meetings of monsters of any variety, whether he was invited or not. He is useful for information for hunters and slayers, but is difficult to deal with, due to his crafty manner, impatient attitude and dismissive demeanor. He enjoys a bit of safety for a weak gorugo such as himself; many slayers value him as a source of information, but if another monster were to slay them, they would in effect bring themselves into war with the brutal, stronger individuals who are proud to call themselves Gorugo.

Name: King Wieliun

Lifestate: Monster

Type: Gorugo

Weapons: Being a gorugo of great strength, he needs no weapon.

Abilities: Having the potential to be diplomatic, King Wieliun prefers to be brutal in his actions, epically in conquest. As the King of all Gorugo, he rarely fights, so his true ability has never been seen in combat.

Description: A large Gorugo with blue fur and red eyes. At times he carries the sacred Scepter of the Gorugo, which is adorned with a falcon like claw made of gold, all talons pointed upwards, the rest of the scepter being made of a red wood. He eats a great many things besides humans, and has even eaten a certain amount of prepared vegetation and fruits, though he mainly eats strange meats, which are luxurious to Gorugo, but mostly unidentifiable to humans. His deep voice commands respect and inspires fear in all who hear it. His home is a castle in the "Great Bog", as it is called by his people, it is somewhere in the north west, where bogs are more common, however, which bog is the Great Bog is unknown to outsiders.

Gaius Marcus Skolmstrum approved, on the grounds that the wielding of that many weapons of that size is explained. Namely, where can one stow both an ax and a knife while a broadsword is in use?

Name: Rutiger Demetrius Firelance

Last Name: Lance

Lifestate: Alive/Human

Type: Mercenary

Weapons: Main Weapon - Skeggox(Bearded Axe), Special Move Weapon - Black(Powder) Egg and Torch, Ranged - Burning Silver Plumbata

Abilities: He is a so-so cook, meaning the food is edible but not exquizite. He has not so much of an idea on the monsters, but no fear, of anything. Also, due to his many travels, he has a good understanding of all fighting strategys/styles. Enjoys alcohol(In ability style- STR, DEF up +Berserk Become immune to instant death.)

Discription: Approx. 6'2" 240 lbs, Husky Build, He is a heavy drinker and is sometimes so grogged up in battle that it allows him to shrug off killing blows. His weapons come from many different things, The Bearded Ax comes from his family line. The Black powder he heard of/saw in Japan, and the Plumbata are the reason he got the "Fire" part of his name. In one of his battles, while grogged up, his mercenary group was sent after a nation's Warrior. He was holed up in a small building, Made of Stone but inside was wood and wool and fabric etc. as it was the Warrior's home. After fighting off his guards they forced the warrior to retreat to his home. In his drunken rage Rutiger picked up one of his enemies darts which was wrapped in a piece of their dart pouch, and as he went to throw it the tip touched a burning torch beside him. Naturally, he took no notice of the fire and threw the dart, he is a very good darts player, into a small crack in the stone lighting the building on fire from the inside out. He upgraded this strategy to be better equipped for fighting(the silver was originally just for looks)

Shop Keeping NPC's

Name: Alberon Metrig

Last Name: Metrig

Lifestate: Human

Type: Item Shop Operator

Weapons: He carries a large steel hammer with him, but only uses it if his life or the life of another is in direct danger.

Abilities: He is able to create and sell various items, such as weapons, and healing items.

Description: A tall burly man with a short black beard and a shaven head. He wears a light brown shirt and a grey-white apron, which is frequently dirty from smiting weapons or crafting other items. He is a kindly man who will gladly help any hunter or slayer of good heart, he is still running a business, and is hard to haggle with. The items he sells are rarely the same two days in a row, but they are always of quality. If one speaks to him in just the right way, he will offer special items which he keeps in the back of his shop; these are usually very expensive, but vastly powerful. He owns a shop in Legenbery

Name: Nadia Millthread

Last Name: Miller

Lifestate: Human

Type: Textile Shop Owner, Clothes Maker

Weapons: She wields no weapons

Abilities: Sewing abilities, moderate cooking, and multiple written language translation

Description: A woman who keeps her hair in a bun and covered with a cloth when out of doors. She owns a textile and clothing shop in Legenbery. She is kindly, but doesn't take kindly to those she perceives as "ruffians" (who usually turn out to be monsters). She makes a living by repairing and selling garments, as well as other items she finds, which are usually softlines (things like maps, rope, usually things that can be folded).

Name: Bartholomew Kandrigplate

Last Name: Kandrig

Lifestate: Human

Type: Smith or Armaments

Weapons: Always caries forge tongs and fire stoking equipment with him.

Abilities: Can craft fine metal objects, armors, and high powered weapons, such as war hammers, high impact cross bows and arrows, and broad swords

Description: An all around tough guy, Bartholomew wears a hat that covers his short hair, but is so covered in soot that it is almost impossible to tell what he looks like. He prefers to be called Bart to an extent, but would rather be called "sir" if anyone has to talk to him. He prefers to be brief in conversation, wanting to be paid so he can do his work. He owns a smithy shop in Legenbery called the "Eternal Anvil".

Locations:

Legenbery:

A town in what could be considered Central Eastern Europe, although the eastern coastline of the area is smoother in a way. It has a peculiar structure, all streets are parallel, and run north to south, with all houses and buildings facing east. Shops are generally easy to find, as they are all on Market Street, the easternmost street in Legenbery. This is the hometown of Alexander and Tobias Silver.

Brambelwood:

A scrubby forest to the east of Legenbery, there has been an increase of monster activity there as of late, it is not very large, only about two miles wide, and stops at the Greywater River, and does not extend to far north or south of Legenbery.

Greywater River:

A river which reflects the dull rocks of the landscape and appears gray, also because of the nutrient rich yet grey sediments. It runs past the entire length of Brambelwood, and begins from streams in the Iceward Mountains to the north. It continues south past Brambelwood for about four miles before turning northward like a hook and draining into a marsh which leads into a swamp. The Greywater River is rarely the source of water for the people in Legenbery, though it is drinkable most of the time. Sometimes called the Grey River

Boneyard Coast:

A stretch of coast southwest of Legenbery, west southwest of the Grey Swamp, and west of the hook in the Greywater, with greyish sands and rocks. The grassy land between Boneyard Coast and the Greywater River is between three and five feet above sea level, resulting in a small cliff like exposure of white and grey-white stone, giving this strip of coast its name. It is not a common place for ships to land; it is, however, a common reference location at which monsters who can withstand or tolerate open spaces meet.

Iceward Mountains:

A range of mountains located to the north of Brambelwood and Legenbery. Peaks to the north of the range sit right against the coast, creating dramatic cliffs and drops; these rocky shores are refuges for seals and seabirds. This mountain range received its name due to its being in the north; as it nears winter, the snow and ice form to the north in the mountains, and eventually come to Legenbery. Since the mountains are always in the direction of the ice, they are called "iceward". It is thought by some in Legenbery that ice actually comes from the mountains, but this belief is usually held by older individuals who took it as fact through their lives, or young children, who have not yet learned of weather patterns and gather information from observation.

Darkland Forest:

A forest full of black trees located to the east southeast of Brambelwood past the Greywater. It is filled with black trees and covered in an unnatural haze, making it a common haunt for vampires which no hunter should enter alone. The soil is dry and all trees appear dead. There are no fruit bearing plants in sight, and rats are the only animal that can be found in these wretched woods. One can see the sky through the leafless branches, but it always looks thickly clouded from within Darkland Forest. It is also called Blackland Forest, Darkward Forest, or Forest of Thieves, seeing as it was a popular location with thieves, muggers, and highway men before the vampires moved in.

Malcabre Castle:

A fortress of the vampires located somewhere in the expanses of Darkland Forest, little is known about it, except by those foul undead who reside within.

Great Bog:

A bog located somewhere in the vicinity of Legenbery, it is the home of many Gorugo and contains their capitol, known as Wetland Keep, Gorugo Keep, or Wieliun's Keep.
